2007 Ridge Montebello (Pre-Release)
6.0L
For more than 40 years Paul Draper has been making the wines and overseeing the
vineyards for Ridge, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Paul is universally recognized
as one of the premier winemakers in the world and has received many honors for his
expertise including being named Decanter magazine’s “Man of the Year.”
Paul’s philosophy has always been that the vineyard creates the wine. Every year
he produces many single vineyard wines from numerous varietals and blends. However,
the kingpin of the vineyards – Montebello - surrounds the winery. Ridge has been
making wine from Montebello since 1968, and the character of the wines has always
been unique, beautifully expressing the terroir. Three years ago, the 1971 Montebello
was named the grand winner in the 1976 Paris Tasting “Rematch” celebrating the 30th
anniversary of this groundbreaking event. The 2007 Montebello reflects the complexity
of the vintage. The typical Montebello structure and balance are woven with the
elegance and power that can only come from fruit grown in idyllic climatic conditions
and in just the right spot. Long favored by collectors and wine enthusiasts, Ridge
Montebello has reigned atop the hierarchy of the world’s great wines since its inception.

2005 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard
6.0L
A one-of-a-kind, etched, six-liter bottle of Paul Hobbs 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon,
To Kalon Vineyard, Napa Valley, personalized for the California Winemasters Auction.
This jewel of a cabernet sauvignon is sourced from specific rows within the ‘BV4’
block of To Kalon Vineyard, personally chosen by Paul. They are kept separate from
our other lots from To Kalon and then bottled as a limited vineyard designate. Paul
first worked with this legendary property in the 1970’s when he joined Robert Mondavi
and the inaugural winemaking team for Opus One. When Andy Beckstoffer purchased
what Paul considers to be the best acreage within the vineyard, including the ‘BV4’
block that produced the outstanding Georges de la Tour wines in the mid-1900’s,
he offered Paul his choice of rows. Paul jumped at the chance, and the rest is history;
a history that includes a ‘100-point’ score from Robert Parker, Jr., for the 2002
vintage. The 2005 was rated ‘95+’ points by Robert Parker, Jr, of Wine Advocate
and ‘95’ points by James Laube of Wine Spectator.

HdV is a joint venture of love and dedication
by two great wine families. The family of Aubert de Villaine of the esteemed Domaine
de la Romanee-Conti of Burgundy’s Cote d’Or and that of Larry Hyde of Hyde Vineyards
in Carneros, one of the world’s most respected growers. Together they envisioned
a winery to produce world-class wines of classic style by using only the fruit of
the Hyde Vineyard. Chardonnay is the principle focus with an outstanding Bordeaux
blend and Syrah as well. Stephane Vivier is the “hands-on” winemaker and brings
all of his Burgundian skills to create wines of great elegance that speak of the
vineyard. When not tending the wines in the cellar, Stephane spends his time in
the vineyards getting to know each block and vine and what can be expected of them.
Stephane chooses to harvest a bit earlier than many of Hyde’s prestigious clients
to capture every true essence – fruit, acid, balance and structure – the vineyard
has to offer. This is a complete vertical collection in rare 3.0L formats to highlight
just how ethereal a California Chardonnay can be.

Dale Chihuly is one of the most talented
and renowned artists in the world today. His work can be seen in over 200
museums, from his hometown of Tacoma, Washington to the farthest-reaching corners
of the globe. Dale became captivated by glassblowing in the 60’s. He
is credited for establishing the blown-glass form as an accepted vehicle for installation
and environmental art beginning in the late twentieth century and continuing today.
Tonight you will have the opportunity to take home two one-of-a kind pieces from
Chihuly.
11-A
An original Chihuly glass sculpture, Coral Pink and White Seaform Set,
2000 and measures 11 x 18 x 19". This piece is numbered 00.649.s7
11-B
An original drawing entitled, “Baskets Drawing,” created in 2009. The beautifully
framed piece measures 30 x 22” and is numbered 09.265.d1. About his drawings, Chihuly
says, “The Drawings have to do with releasing energy. Somebody once said that people
become artists because they have a certain kind of energy to release, and that rang
true to me. It's not the kind of energy you can work off in the weight room. It
must have an outlet--it must be released to someone. That's really why I draw."

Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is one of
the most famous names in Burgundy with perhaps the largest holding of Grands
Cru vineyards (25.6 hectares spread among seven vineyard sites). Aubert de
Villaine heads up the domaine as he has for many years. Aubert sees no compromise
in creating wines from historic Grands Cru vineyards that will hold their
place at the highest echelon of the world’s greatest wines. Romanee-Saint-Vivant
is the closest Grands Cru vineyard to the village of Vosne-Romanee. The
portion of the vineyard belonging to DRC runs along the village’s northern end and
behind the historic church. The wines of Romanee-Saint-Vivant are among the most
delicate and feminine of the Vosne Grand Crus, setting them apart from
the others and appealing to Burgundy fanciers worldwide. DRC is one of several prestigious
domaines to craft wine from this heralded vineyard and year after year is seen as
one of the best. 1996 was the finest red burgundy vintage since the memorable 1990,
displaying the rare combination of high ripeness with bracing acidity. Robert Parker
spoke of the “complex fragrances of perfume, roses, violets and Asian spice” with
a good depth of fruit. This is a memorable wine very typical of the vineyard and
the DRC character.

Robert Parker described this stellar wine
stating, “Domaine de Pegau’s magical 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo is a
magnificent offering” and then went on to award it 99 – 100 points. He further comments,
“it is an enormously endowed, hugely concentrated, exhilarating effort that will
last for three decades or more. It is a strong candidate for the wine of the vintage.”
Domaine du Pegau was formed in 1987 when Laurence Feraud returned to join her father
Paul Feraud in the family’s Domaine Feraud after her oenological studies were complete.
Together with Laurence’s husband Mark, they organically farm 17 hectares spread
over eleven parcels in Chateauneuf de Pape and have become one of the finest houses
in this venerable area. Just two barrels from different soil types produced the
2003 Cuvee da Capo, and it was aged an additional 18 months in barrel. The total
production was a mere 240 magnums and only a few 3.0Ls. Very rarely will you see
this collector’s gem available at auction and we are proud to offer it this evening.

2005 is universally regarded as one of
the finest Bordeaux vintages in history. And Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is among
the most coveted of the vintage. Jean-Phillipe Delmas, the 3rd
generation of winemaking at Chateau Haut-Brion, is at the winemaking helm for La
Mission as well. James Lawther (Decanter), Jancis Robinson and Farr Vintners (London)
all rated it 19 of 20 points while James Suckling (Wine Spectator) and Robert Parker
(Wine Advocate) awarded 98 points. James Suckling went on to say “This may even
be better than I scored it for the magazine... So typical. Talk about terroir.”
James Lawther observes “A classic La Mission, powerful with more Merlot than usual.”
And Farr Vintners (London) adds that with the higher Merlot component (69%) it could
be the “Pomerol of the left bank.” Powerful yet elegant, expressive in both the
nose and palate, dense, rich, and classic are all descriptors commonly used to describe
this magnificent wine. Production of the 2005 La Mission Haut-Brion is lower than
previous vintages further enhancing the value of this very rare Imperial.

acclaim for his signature Progressive American Cooking, a style built on rambunctious
flavors and unexpected combinations with a deep and lasting infusion of classical
French cuisine. Over the years, Palmer combined his creative cooking spirit and
flair for business to open thirteen notable restaurants across the country, a growing
collection of food-forward wine shops and award-winning boutique hotels. But even
today, the chef still steps in the kitchen with reinvention on his mind. A frequent
guest on NBC's Today Show, Charlie Palmer is also the author of four cookbooks.
Tonight, Chef Palmer invites FOUR people to enjoy a private cooking
class followed by dinner and wine pairings. Your epicurean experience will take
place at Charlie Palmer’s in Bloomingdales located in South Coast Plaza in Costa
Mesa. Arranging the lesson is dependant upon Chef Palmer’s travel schedule.
Following dinner, both couples will enjoy overnight accommodations in beautifully
appointed guestrooms at The Westin South Coast Plaza where you’ll discover a host
of new personal sensory experiences, including music, lighting, even aromatics and
botanicals, all created to soothe and stimulate. Your adventure continues the following
day when Chuck Macfarland, CEO of Air Resources Helicopters in Costa Mesa invites
you to join him for a private aerial tour of Southern California. Package valid
to 5/15/11 and subject to availability.

Spring Mountain District — above the Napa
Valley — is a place of individuals, more often than not, of couples, of families,
of stubborn, independent people with passion, dreams and a whole lot of energy.
Spring Mountain, officially established as an AVA (American Viticulture Area) in
1993, was described 25 years ago by a prominent wine writer as “probably more responsible
than any other Napa hillside for creating the mystique of ‘mountain grapes.’ ” This
mountain appellation is defined by vineyards that range from small to smaller, often
hand-tilled on terraces and sloping meadows, and wineries hidden from view among
dark forests and steep winding roads. Over the years, despite its limited space
and remoteness, the appellation has produced an abundance of wines acclaimed worldwide
for the unmistakable intense flavor and delicate, balanced tannins that are now
the signature of Spring Mountain wines.
Tonight, the Spring Mountain District Association offers a truly singular adventure
and wine collection especially for TWO COUPLES. This Spring Mountain
experience includes:
- A three-day, two-night stay at Villa
Valentine, the spectacular Terra Valentine guesthouse
- Dinner for four at Guilliams Vineyard
- Lunch for four at Paloma Vineyard,
including a VIP tour and tasting
- VIP tour and private tasting at Spring
Mountain Vineyards
- A food and wine pairing plus private
tour and tasting at Schweiger Vineyards
- A VIP tour and tasting at Barnett
Vineyards
- A VIP tour and tasting at Cain Vineyard
& Winery
- A “Bocce Ball Lunch” at Vineyard
7 & 8
- A private tour and Reserve tasting
at Marston Vineyard
Valid to 5/15/11 at a mutually convenient
time.
